Precise Fuel Metering
The primary function is to deliver an exact amount of fuel into the combustion chamber, as dictated by the engine control unit. This precise metering is critical for controlling engine power and speed, ensuring the correct air-fuel ratio is maintained for efficient combustion under all operating conditions.
Fuel Atomization
The injector forces diesel fuel at extremely high pressure through a micro-fine nozzle. This process atomizes the fuel, transforming it into a fine, consistent mist or spray. This maximizes the surface area of the fuel droplets for a more complete and efficient burn.
Timing and Sealing
The injector precisely controls the timing of the injection event, opening and closing in a split second to inject fuel at the optimal moment in the piston's cycle. It also must seal perfectly between injections to prevent fuel dribble and maintain cylinder pressure.
