Electronic Fuel Volume Control
The IMV's core function is to precisely regulate the amount of fuel entering the high-pressure pump. It acts as an electronically controlled gate, opening and closing based on signals from the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to meter the fuel supply. This determines the pumping chamber's fill level, directly influencing the pump's output and the pressure generated in the common rail.
Dynamic Rail Pressure Management
By controlling the fuel volume supplied to the pump, the IMV is the primary actuator for managing common rail pressure. It allows the system to instantly achieve and maintain the exact high pressure required for optimal injection, adapting in real-time to changing engine demands for speed and load.
Optimizing Efficiency and Power
This precise metering ensures the engine receives the ideal fuel pressure for complete combustion. This process is fundamental to maximizing fuel economy, reducing emissions, and delivering consistent engine power and smooth operation across all driving conditions, from idling to full load.
